Practical checks before purchasing across borders

A lower shelf price in another country is not the same as a lower delivered price. Use these independent checks before you buy.

1. Compare the exact model, not just the product name

Two power tools with nearly identical names can ship with different batteries, chargers, storage cases or accessory kits. Compare the full model code and, when possible, the EAN/GTIN barcode. A cordless drill sold as a “bare tool” may be considerably cheaper because the battery is not included. An unusually low price is a reason to check the package contents, not proof of a bargain.

Look up the manufacturer's product specification and verify voltage, capacity, included accessories, warranty conditions and plug type. Brand names alone are not enough. Record your model identifiers in MARVETO's research sheet so you never compare different variants by accident.

2. Calculate the delivered total

Start with the actual price shown to a buyer in the destination country. Add shipping, bulky-item surcharges and any clearly disclosed extra fee. Confirm that the merchant will ship to the specific destination and can handle warranty claims. A €100 demonstration price plus €25 shipping is not cheaper than a local €115 all-inclusive offer.

Product price+Shipping+Known fees=Comparable total

For purchases in euros and forints, record the exchange-rate source and check date. Bank conversion rates and card fees can differ from a reference rate. Within the EU, product categories, consumer protection rules and VAT treatment can vary depending on the transaction and seller. Do not assume that every cross-border purchase has the same tax outcome.

3. Check stock, delivery and returns

A headline price may refer to out-of-stock items or be available only for local collection. Before ordering, test the checkout to the final destination without submitting payment. Check the delivery estimate and written returns instructions. For large garden equipment, return shipping can cost more than the original delivery.

Confirm whether warranty claims can be handled locally and whether replacement components are supported in your country. Customer-service language also matters when something breaks. Save the relevant order documents and take note of how long the offer remains valid.

4. Understand price freshness

A manual price observation is a snapshot, not a promise of availability. Retailers change pricing, stock and promotions frequently. Our researched-offer area records when each price was checked and flags old observations. Always confirm the current amount on the merchant's checkout page.

If delivery eligibility or its cost has not been confirmed, MARVETO deliberately avoids presenting that offer as the cheapest delivered purchase. An incomplete number is less useful than an honest “unknown”.

The calculators and examples on MARVETO provide general comparisons, not financial, tax or legal advice. The current catalogue uses fictional demonstration values.
